Will Fish gives update on his future amid Manchester United loan recall option

Manchester United defender Will Fish has insisted he is in no hurry to return to Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old was once again loaned out for the 2023/24 season in order to further enhance his development, with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian opting to recruit the centre-back for a second successive season.

Fish had captained United's youth teams at academy level but has since failed to make the next step in terms of gaining valuable minutes for the first team. Plenty of others including Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Dan Gore have all impressed this season, with Fish perhaps left to ponder on what his immediate future holds.

It is widely well known that Erik ten Hag is more than happy to thrust some of his younger players into the deep end much like he did during his time with Ajax, with the Red Devils academy bursting with talent on a conveyor belt system.

Fish, however, recently admitted he is ignorant about the noise regarding his parent club and what the future holds, and is more concerned about the here and now and continuing to perform well week in, week out at Easter Road.

Asked whether United could indeed cut his temporary switch short if required, Fish replied, “I think they do but to be honest with you, those discussions haven’t been had yet. It’s not something that I’m actively looking to do.

“If I stay here, that’s something that I would love to do [reach the top 3]. It’s still pretty early in the season but under the gaffer, his coaching team and the way he wants to play, I think a few more tweaks and building on leads, we can easily push for the third spot.”
