Why Rangers board and Dave King MUST end their squabbling as Philippe Clement has message for warring Ibrox chiefs

Philippe Clement has urged Dave King and the Rangers board to stop their squabbling and instead join his battle to get the Ibrox side back fighting fit.

Former chairman King has spent the past week firing off stinging shots at the directors he blames for the club’s current mess. The South Africa-based millionaire has gone on the offensive while at the same time offering to return as and replace John Bennett, who was forced to resign as chairman this week on health grounds.

His challenge to put the question of who controls the club to the vote at an emergency general meeting is unsurprisingly destined to fail, with key Ibrox investors like Douglas Park, George Letham and George Taylor still seething over King’s shock decision to quit the club at the height to Covid pandemic back in 2020. Clement has chosen to look away while Gers’ top brass sling it out with their former boardroom boss. But he’s urged them to sort it out while he focuses on getting Gers back on track.

Asked how key it was to have unity at the top of the Marble Staircase, the manager said: “Of course. If there's no unity you cannot have a good club. That's clear. But I'm not a board member here, I'm not a politician. I'm the manager of the club.

“I'm here to focus on football, on sports, on the team, on making them better, on the project for the future. I've engaged myself in the long term in that way. So I'm focused on that, on the sports side. And the rest is for other people to arrange really well. But it's important that they support the sports side and that's what I feel for the moment.”
