Why I will also be cheering on Canada in the World Cup - Angus Robertson
Having waited since 1986 when they last qualified, they have enjoyed tremendous success through the CONCACAF stages to book their place and jump up the FIFA ratings from 72nd in the world to 38th, one place above Scotland.
Canada have yet to ever win a match in the World Cup, unlike Scotland, but at least they have qualified already. Our path to success is still alive, but will require defeating celtic cousins Wales and Ukraine, who understandably will be supercharged for victory.

Over the last 12 months Canada has enjoyed growing momentum and success with a squad included players whose club sides included Rangers, St Johnson, Ross County and Dundee. In truth their eventual success in Qatar is highly unlikely, given they are drawn in a group against the world’s second top team Belgium, the previous finalists Croatia and Morocco who only conceded three goals in qualifying and didn’t lose once.
Being in Toronto at the moment to support Tartan Day events in Canada and the United States it’s easy to notice the excitement of sport fans for their national side. Of course I will be cheering for Scotland to qualify for the World Cup and then battle their way out of our group with England, USA and Iran. But I’m happy to confirm that I will definitely be cheering for Canada too.
