Why Erling Haaland 'snubbed' Manchester United and more transfer rumours
Erling Haaland reportedly rejected the chance to join Manchester United over concerns with the club’s “sporting project”.
The Borussia Dortmund star is set to be the subject of a huge bidding war between some of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer. The 21-year-old’s release clause comes into effect at the end of the season, with the continent’s heavyweights ready to pounce.
Manchester City are thought to be leading the race, with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona also keen. United also looked to be in the running, although talk of the Norway international potentially moving to Old Trafford has cooled in recent months.

ESPN report that United were in the running for Haaland’s signature, although the striker turned down their approach. According to the report, United assured the player and his representatives that they would be able to match any financial package offered by another club.
Haaland, though, is reportedly more interested in the “sporting project” that can be offered to him, with United’s issues this season no doubt harming their chances of landing the much sought-after striker.
Elsewhere, United are said to be in pole position to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer as the Lazio midfielder continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford. United will be in the market for a new midfielder, possibly more than one, particularly with Paul Pogba set to leave for a second time.
Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with United for some time now, although a move has never materialised. With his contract expiring in 2024 though, Lazio are reportedly considering cashing in as the Serb doesn’t look keen on renewing his deal.
