Who is Jake Paul and why is he fighting Tommy Fury?

Jake Paul has become a huge name within the world of boxing but is yet to face a full-time boxer, finally getting the chance as he faces Tommy Fury this weekend.

Anyone who has seen Paul fight will know that he is a dangerous puncher with knockout wins against former UFC stars Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. He followed that up with a unanimous decision victory against Anderson Silva last year to underline his credentials.

Now, the 26-year-old will taste the biggest name of his career with a huge prize on offer. The winner of the fight will earn a place in the WBC's cruiserweight rankings, with a top 40 place on offer, opening the chance of unlikely world title shot in the future.

It is a long way from the early days of Paul's career filming videos with older brother Logan from the age of ten. Jake initially became a big star on the Vine platform, gaining 5.3 million followers and 2 billion views on the now discontinued social media site which provided the platform to launch a successful YouTube channel in 2014 at the age of 17.

After this, he also appeared on the Disney channel in 'Bizaardvark' from 2016–2018 where he would take part in a variety of pranks and dares. He took on his first fight in 2018, facing fellow YouTuber Deji on the same card as Logan's fight against his opponent's older brother, KSI.

Since then, Jake has uncovered an undeniable talent for the sport of boxing and six successive wins in his professional career underline this talent. However, with his opponent this weekend having considerably more experience and pedigree in the sport it will almost certainly be his toughest task so far.
