Where you can see a Spitfire fly over Greater Manchester today

Celebrations to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee are now well into their fourth day and there is still plenty to look forward to in Greater Manchester. Street parties and events are being held today (June 5) across the region to toast Her Majesty's 70 years on the throne.

Crowds in London and television viewers across the globe were wowed by the stunning RAF flypast over Buckingham Palace on Thursday afternoon, as the Jubilee celebrations were kicking off. Today, residents in parts of Greater Manchester will be able to see another iconic Royal Air Force aircraft in the skies above.

The Spitfire played a key role in the Second World War, during the Battle of Britain in 1940. Six Spitfires are now used as part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - and one will be flying over the skies of Greater Manchester this afternoon.

In a post on its website, a spokesperson for East Lancashire Railway said: "One of the heroes of the Battle of Britain will be flying overhead to salute the Jubilee at the East Lancashire Railway. Keep your eyes on the skies and be sure not to miss this legend passing by."

The East Lancashire Railway has been hosting events to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee over the bank holiday weekend, with celebrations continuing until 4pm today. Find out more here.

The RAF has been approached for further details on the flypast.
