When and what time is the 2023 Christmas number one announced?
Getting a number-one hit is every musician's dream - but having a chart-topping song around Christmas time makes the achievement even more special. And let's face it, it simply wouldn't be Christmas without the festive tunes to get you into the spirit.
Last year's coveted top spot went to social media personalities LadBaby. Their cover of Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas, titled FoodAid, featured Martin Lewis and marked their fifth consecutive Christmas number one.
The track raised money for UK food banks and sold 65,000 copies to beat Wham!'s much-loved Last Christmas. But 2023 could finally see Wham!'s 1986 hit - which has topped the charts five times - make its debut as an official Christmas number one.

Other contenders for this year's Christmas number one include Eurovision star Sam Ryder with You’re Christmas To Me, which charted at number two mid-week. The Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey is vying for the top spot with All I Want For Christmas Is You, while Ed Sheeran and Elton John are hoping to score a Christmas number one with Merry Christmas.
Still very much one to watch however, is The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl with Fairytale of New York. The 1988 track has become even more poignant since the death of Pogues frontman Shane MacGowen late last month.
Meawhile Noah Kahan's Stick Season and Jorja Smith's cover of Stay Another Day are also strong contenders. TikTok collective Creator Universe and their cover of Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday could also be in with a shout of
