Sir Alex Ferguson will likely be very happy to hear of rumours linking Manchester United with a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Liverpool midfielder is reportedly going to be allowed to leave the club this summer ahead of his contract entering its final year. This summer will represent the club's last chance to sell him for a respectable transfer fee, and it is claimed that he does not figure in Jurgen Klopp's plans moving forward.

According to a report by talkSPORT, the prospect of Oxlade-Chamberlain becoming available has captured United's attention, who are claimed to be 'seriously interested' in his signature. United are desperate to strengthen their midfield options this summer with both a defensive-minded midfield player and a box-to-box-type midfielder, a category which Oxlade-Chamberlain falls into.

The former Arsenal man, who joined Liverpool back in 2017, made 29 appearances for the Anfield club this term, but only 17 of them came in the Premier League. He wants to become a more regular fixture somewhere and understandably so.

United's reported interest in the midfielder has come as a surprise. However, the 28-year-old is a vastly experienced operator in the Premier League, making almost 230 appearances in the division during his career.
