When Mohamed Salah went through on goal for the second time in the match on Sunday afternoon, Manchester City fans will have been hoping that Ederson would have been able to produce the same heroics of his previous one-on-one with the Egyptian.

However, it was Salah who came out on top, finishing into the corner of the City goal, with Pep Guardiola on his knees on the sidelines. It was the seventh goal in 17 games that he has scored against City and a common sight for the Catalan manager, with the forward having performed at a high level for a number of years now.

The first time he was through on goal in the 54th minute, Salah was denied by a fingertips save from Brazil goalkeeper Ederson, with almost the whole stadium holding its breath believing he had scored. However, he did not and City went up the other end minutes later to score before that goal was chalked off by VAR.

Then, in the 76th minute, a precise long ball from Alisson found its way to Salah, whose sublime first touch saw the whole pitch open out in front of him. There was no mistake from the Liverpool man this time as he lifted the ball slightly to score and avoid the desperate clutches of Ederson.

Guardiola's reaction was captured, with the City boss sinking to his knees as soon as Salah was through seemingly aware of the inevitability of a goal. This goal was summed up by Gary Neville when speaking to Sky Sports after the match, with the former United man lauding Salah's contribution.
