What Nick Candy will do for Chelsea vs Newcastle amid Blues takeover race

British billionaire Nick Candy is known to be considering a bid to take over his favourite club Chelsea, and is planning on making an appearance at the Blues' Premier League fixture with Newcastle United this weekend.

The UK Government froze the assets of owner Roman Abramovich as they clamp down on oligarchs, which could affect the Russian's hopes of selling the club.

Candy, who has made his fortunes as a property developer, is a Chelsea fan and is not backing out of a potential takeover despite the recent news.

He does face stiff competition however from the likes of Hansjorg Wyss' and Todd Boehly's consortium and others including the Ricketts family and New York Jets owner Woody Johnson.

However with the first consortium mentioned wanting to find a third party and with that party rumoured to be someone ideally from the property development side of things, Candy could be the perfect person to complete the trio of Billionaire's who aim to take Chelsea into a new dawn.

"We are examining the details of the announcement and we are still interested in making a bid," a spokesperson for Candy told the Daily Mail.

"Clearly this is a time of great uncertainty for all Chelsea fans. In our view no one is the owner of a football club – you are the custodian of it for the fans and the community."

His spokesperson also mentioned Stamford Bridge, stating: "The club deserves a world-class stadium – and Mr Candy’s unique expertise and background in real estate would be a hugely valuable asset to delivering this vision."

Words that could split opinion in the fan base with the long-proposed redevelopment of Stamford Bridge a contentious issue.
