'What', 'Head's gone', 'Unbelievable' - Lots of West Ham fans flock to news from The Athletic

Flocking to Twitter, a number of West Ham fans have been left fuming with the news that West Ham are unlikely to make a move for Duje Caleta-Car before tonight’s transfer deadline.

According to The Athletic, the Hammers are unlikely to pursue a move for Marseille centre-back Caleta-Car before shutting up shop on Monday, following numerous negotiations held between the two clubs.

The stalemate has arisen due to differing structures of the deal. West Ham are looking for a loan deal with an option to buy, whereas Marseille are holding out for a permanent sale.

The Hammers have even had a bid rejected for the player, which involved a loan with a permanent option, as the French side will only sanction a permanent deal in the region of £15 million.

David Moyes’ pursuit of a central defender began with the season-ending injury sustained by Angelo Ogbonna, and this need was further exacerbated by Kurt Zouma’s hamstring injury, which he has since recovered from.

The Athletic’s West Ham correspondent Roshane Thomas took to Twitter to share the disappointing news. Fans flooded to the comments to express their anger with the club, as a potential deal for the player was seemingly within reach.
