What are rugby player Mike Tindalls' medals for?

Mike Tindall, husband of Zara, Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter, has been spotted brandishing three medals on his jacket during the Queen's funeral.

This is despite the fact that Tindall has never served in any military department. One of the medals pinned to his jacked is an Order of the British Empire which he was awarded for his services to rugby after the 2003 World cup victory against Australia.

Meanwhile, his other two medals were sported in celebration of the Queen's Diamond and Platinum Jubilees. The Diamon Jubilee Medal is a commemorative medal that was made in 2012 to celebrate the Queen's 60th anniversary on the throne, OK! reports.

The silver medal, fashioned to look like a coin, is etched with the year of her coronation and the year of the jubilee. A similar medal as created in celebration for the Platinum Jubilee with a slightly different coloured band and different dates - celebrating 70 years on the throne.

The ex-England international also received an MBE in 2007 due to his contribution to sport. Tindall had previously sported the MBE medal to the Service of Thanksgiving during the Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.

Tindall had previously shared a heartwarming tribute to the Queen on his Instagram story, posting a love heart emoji next to a projection of the Queen on the Sydney Opera House. He had been married to Zara Tindall for over a decade and it is believed he fostered a good relationship with the late monarch.
