'What a sub!' - Manchester United fans hail Ralf Rangnick masterstoke as Fred scores vs Leeds

Some Manchester United fans were made to eat their words after seeing Fred make an instant impact after coming off the bench against Leeds.

The midfielder was called upon to replace Paul Pogba after United had let their lead slip at Elland Road, with two goals in the space of a minute leaving the visitors reeling.

And fans were left bemused when Pogba’s number was displayed by the fourth official to be replaced, having been United’s standout player before that.

Ralf Rangnick’s decision though was vindicated not long after as Fred gave United the lead again as they picked up another vital three points.

The Brazilian slammed the ball home from a tight angle after receiving Jadon Sancho’s pass to put the visitors back into the lead in the torrential conditions at Elland Road.

It proved to be a vital intervention, with Anthony Elanga then going on to wrap up the three points as he made it 4-2 to end any Leeds hope of another comeback.

And some supporters were forced to backtrack on their criticism of Rangnick’s substitution after seeing it pay off almost immediately.

The win provides United with another boost as they look to secure a top four finish in the Premier League, having watched Tottenham pick up a huge win over Manchester City on Saturday.

They now turn their attentions to the Champions League as they prepare to head to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday for the first leg of their last-16 tie.
