West Indies vs Papua New Guinea LIVE Score, T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies Restrict Papua New Guinea To 136/8

WI vs PNG LIVE Score, T20 World Cup 2024: Opting to bowl after winning the toss, hosts West Indies restricted Papua New Guinea to 133/8 in their opening 2024 ICC T20 World Cup match. Papua New Guinea batsman Sese Bau departed after a fighting half-century in 43 balls, with wickets tumbling at the other end. Star all-rounder Andre Russell picked up two wickets, taking his T20I wickets tally above 50. Earlier, Roston Chase took a stunner while fielding at point to send Papua New Guinea captain Assad Vala back to the dugout. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein opened the bowling on a spin-friendly track, and restricted the scoring rate. Regarded by many as dark horses for the tournament, the West Indies are aiming for a record third T20 World Cup title. (Live Scorecard)

Papua New Guinea's star with the bat, Sese Bau is in for a chat. He says that it started off a bit slow but he built up the innings well. Adds that it is his first T20 World Cup fifty and he is feeling good. Mentions that the wicket is on the slower side but it got a bit hard towards the end. Ends by saying that if their bowlers can stick to the plan, they can defend this total.

For the West Indies, it was a disciplined start to their bowling effort, with Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Alzarri Joseph enjoying success in the Powerplay. Rovman Powell had plenty of bowlers to choose from and rotated them well to keep a lid on the scoring rate. The partnership between Sese Bau and Charles Amini posed a threat to the Windies, but Andre Russell answered his skipper's call by breaking the stand. Despite getting rid of Bau, the West Indies could not close out the innings in a fashion they would have liked, with each of the last 3 overs going for 10 or more runs.
