West Ham transfer news: First summer signing to be announced on Monday, with paperwork complete for Nayef Aguerd

West Ham will announce the signing of Nayef Aguerd on Monday after completing the paperwork for his transfer from Rennes, it has been claimed.

Aguerd has been West Ham’s top priority in terms of their hunt for a new centre-back this summer. An ACL injury to Angelo Ogbonna last season exposed a lack of depth in the position.

Now, Aguerd will be arriving to help provide balance to their backline. They have encountered various obstacles along the way, but seem to have arrived at the desired outcome.

According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Aguerd is joining West Ham after all the relevant paperwork was filled out, including his signature on the contract. The length of that deal is not yet disclosed.

West Ham will pay £30m for the Morocco international, who will provide competition for the likes of Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop, depending on who stays.

Romano reveals that West Ham will confirm the signing of Aguerd at the start of the week. Their announcement will be released on Monday.

Aguerd will subsequently become their first signing of the summer. It will be interesting to see who follows; there is still a need for the Hammers to strengthen at the other end of the pitch, while left-back seems to be an area they could consider reinforcing too.

For now, though, they have at least had a proactive start to the window in one aspect.

The signing of Aguerd should give West Ham some useful European experience ahead of the new season.

The Hammers did well in the Europa League last season, reaching the semi-final. This term, they will be in the Europa Conference League.
