West Ham: 'Too safe' - Major squad problem emerges for David Moyes

There is not enough competition for places at West Ham right now, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Hammers are enjoying another fine season in the Premier League after their sixth-place finish last term, but Jones is concerned about their lack of strength in depth.

David Moyes’s side are currently in a similar situation to last season, where they find themselves with a glimmer of hope of breaking into the top four.

Despite losing nine league games this season, they have still picked up 48 points from their 29 matches, which leaves them three points behind Arsenal, although the Gunners do have three games in hand.

Their campaign has not been completely smooth sailing as the club failed to land any new signings to bolster their squad in the January transfer window.

Jones has pointed out that Liverpool went out and signed Luis Diaz from Porto in January, and he has helped them claw their way back into the title picture.

Meanwhile, looking at West Ham’s team, Jones has hinted that some players may be getting a little too comfortable as they know that they are unlikely to be replaced.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “You’ve just got to look at the fact that Liverpool have gone into the market and strengthened in January, and it’s got them back in the title race, to be honest with you.

“That’s what the best clubs do, they make sure that nobody’s spot is safe. At the moment, almost everybody in that West Ham side is safe.”
