West Ham: Seven-cap Brazil international on Hammers’ ‘list’

West Ham United have added Shakhtar Donetsk winger David Neres to ‘a long list’ of potential targets, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old only joined Shakhtar in January from Ajax via a £10 million deal but is yet to play a single game for his new side following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Neres shot to fame after enjoying a stellar 2018/19 campaign, registering 12 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances as Ajax claimed a domestic double and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

However, the seven-cap Brazil international failed to build on that hugely successful season, registering just 27 goal contributions in his subsequent 81 outings for the Amsterdam outfit.

The pacey attacker was allowed to depart the Johan Cruyff Arena as a result of his lack of productivity, yet he could be on the move once again in the coming weeks and months.

Earlier this month, FIFA announced that they were planning to open a special transfer window for foreign players stranded in Russia before confirming that they would allow them to suspend their contracts, initially until the end of the season, in order to let them leave the country.

Sheffield United then became the first English club to sign a foreign player from Russia since Vladimir Putin’s attack by bringing in Filip Uremovic, and West Ham could follow suit.

According to The Sun, Shakhtar are ready to let their star names go, with several includes from across the globe interested in snapping up Neres.

The report lists West Ham, Lyon, Marseille, Real Sociedad and Corinthians as potential suitors for the South American sensation, although the east London outfit may be at a disadvantage.
