West Ham's Jarrod Bowen suffers shocking finger injury vs Wolves

Jarrod Bowen certainly experienced had an eventful evening during West Ham United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

In a match that saw two of the Premier League’s most disappointing teams of the 2022/23 season lock horns, the Hammers reminded the nation that they’re still a force to be reckoned with under David Moyes.

And despite Wolves proving a notoriously difficult team to break down with their watertight defence, the hosts found a way through Bruno Lage’s steely back line.

It came courtesy of summer signing Gianluca Scamacca who proved that his penchant for scoring screamers wasn’t just reserved for his Sassuolo days as he rattled home a ferocious strike.

And from there on out, the stage was set for Bowen to channel the 2021/22 form that had elevated him all the way to an England call-up and had hitherto abandoned him in recent months.

That’s because the thoroughly talented winger bagged West Ham’s second goal of the night with a fizzing left-footed strike that flashed past Jose Sa before he’d barely leapt into his dive.

It not only felt like a watershed moment for Moyes’ men in the context of their season, but a potential catalyst for Bowen to start finding his goalscoring form again.

However, that’s not to say that Bowen had everything his own way at the London Stadium because he also turned heads by way of suffering a rather unfortunate injury.

The broadcast footage showed Bowen looking distressed in the second-half having suffered what looked like a dislocation of a finger on his right hand.

Injuries are, sadly, part and parcel of football, but it’s never nice to see a player evidently concerned about something that’s happened to their body during a game.
