West Ham: Rob Newman 'will look at' Ligue 1 for new signings

West Ham United feel like ‘there’s better value to be had’ by signing players from across the continent than in England, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Hammers are expected to be active in the summer transfer window after failing to make any additions to David Moyes’ first-team squad in January.

It’s been another successful season for West Ham, who are currently sitting in seventh position in the Premier League table with just three games remaining.

Moyes’ charges are also set to take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the second-leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday as they look to overturn a 2-1 deficit and reach the showpiece event.

However, the capital club’s supporters were left frustrated with their lack of activity in the winter window despite being linked to several intriguing stars.

First-choice centre-back Angelo Ogbonna suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament back in November, while Michail Antonio has been the only striker in West Ham’s setup for almost 18 months.

Nevertheless, January came and went without any new arrivals at the London Stadium, placing further emphasis on their summer recruitment.

Jones has revealed that head of recruitment Rob Newman and co. will be searching for potential targets ‘in France’ and elsewhere across the continent in order to secure some better value-for-money deals.

He told GiveMeSport: “I know that West Ham do feel like there’s better value to be had, in terms of both fees and wages in France certainly, and possibly in some of the other leagues across the continent, too. And that’s where I think they’ll look first.”
