West Ham: 'Major concern' for Moyes vs Sevilla involving £10.8m star

A spell on the sidelines for Michail Antonio could damage West Ham‘s chances of winning the Europa League and finishing in the top four, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The £10.8m-rated striker pulled up against Aston Villa last Sunday and has emerged as an injury doubt for the crunch clash with Sevilla in the last 16 tonight.

Antonio has a history of muscle injuries, missing more than 50 games across the last five-and-a-half years since he moved to the London Stadium.

But in recent seasons, and the 2021-2022 campaign particular, Antonio has managed to prove his fitness and hasn’t been out injured since last April.

However, early in the second half of the Hammers’ 2-1 victory over Villa on Sunday, the frontman suffered a hamstring problem, which immediately threw his availability for the Sevilla game into doubt.

Antonio was pictured at West Ham’s Rush Green base on Wednesday ahead of the game, with David Moyes confirming that his only recognised striker didn’t train with the rest of his teammates but worked closely with the fitness coaches in a bid to prove himself ahead of the clash with the Spanish outfit.

Moyes then said that Antonio would be assessed, which would suggest that he’s in contention for the game, although nothing can be taken for granted with his injury history.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s a major concern for David Moyes, because it’s going to hurt their Europa League hopes as well as their top four hopes if Antonio is out for a spell as well as Bowen.”
