West Ham in the hunt for £16.5m star, but face heavy competition across Europe

West Ham are reportedly interested in Lille winger Jonathan Bamba once again, and they face competition from a host of European sides.

The Hammers have reportedly revived their interest in Lille winger Bamba, per Gazzetta dello Sport. The 25-year-old was a target of David Moyes’ side in the summer, following a failure to lure Jesse Lingard back to East London.

While Bamba has not scored yet this season, he was key to Lille’s title-winning season last term. The Frenchman was the top assister and fourth-top scorer in the league for his side.

He has failed to replicate those numbers this season, but has provided three assists so far in all competitions.

Given his impressive attacking returns in previous seasons, though – scoring 13 league goals in the 2018/19 season – he would be a top signing for West Ham.

Adding Bamba to the already potent attack, featuring the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma would increase the quality on offer.

What’s more, Bamba has previously been utilised in central positions. As such, he could rival Michail Antonio for the striker spot, should he have another dip in form.

The report states that £16.5 million is the asking price for Bamba, which  would be well within the Hammers’ budget.

However, they do face competition from a host of European sides.

Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta and Sevilla are all mentioned to be interested in the forward.

In other news, West Ham have been linked with Real Madrid midfielder Isco. The Spaniard’s contract is coming to an end this season.

The 29-year-old has been utilised less and less in recent times.

Indeed, he has started just three games in the league this season.

West Ham could offer Isco the chance to make an impact and prove his worth in a new league.
