West Brom’s Daryl Dike names ex-Swansea City player as his toughest opponent

West Bromwich Albion striker Daryl Dike has named Marc Guehi as the toughest opponent he has faced in the Sky Bet Championship so far.

Dike and Guehi came up against each other in the play-offs last season, when both players were on loan at Barnsley and Swansea respectively.

Asked on TikTok who the hardest player he had played against was, Dike singled out the now Crystal Palace man for some high praise.

“Bro, I’ve literally seen it all over social media, ‘you got pocketed in the play-offs’ – yes, the hardest person I have played against is Marc Guehi – that dude is so annoying” Dike explained on TikTok.

“I would get by him, run by him, (but) next thing I know he’s in front of me again – I’m like how did you just get here?”

“Every time I went somewhere on the field, that dude was there.”

“Genuinely one of the nicer people I’ve played against, like, he’d knock me over, pick me up, having conversations and laughs in the game, but bro, he is so good!”

“I saw him get his move to Palace and I was like OK – makes sense, see him doing well,”

“I will fully admit that dude pocketed me last year. He’s incredible.”

Dike scored nine goals in 22 Championship appearances for Barnsley last campaign, but was unable to find the net over two legs against Swansea where he faced Guehi.

That helped Swansea progress to the play-off final at Wembley, where they ultimately fell short against Brentford.

Dike is now at West Bromwich Albion having signed for the club during the January transfer window.

Due to injury, the American striker has only featured twice for the Baggies so far.

It’s refreshing to hear a footballer speak so openly about an opponent whilst still being in the game themselves.

It’s clear that Dike saw the noise
