West Brom now keen on 26 y/o international to replace current star; scouts ready to go
West Brom are interested in signing St Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj this summer, and will send scouts to watch him in action for Bosnia this month.
The Baggies had a disappointing season in the Championship, finishing 10th in the end, and reinforcements are required in the coming months.
On the flip side, Sam Johnstone appears likely to leave West Brom before the start of 2022/23, with his contract at the Hawthorns expiring this month.
Should that happen, a top-quality replacement will be needed between the sticks.
According to Football Insider, the Baggies are eyeing up Vasilj as an option, with the 26-year-old making 33 Bundesliga II appearances this season.
Wolves and Celtic are also in the mix to sign Vasilj, with the three clubs set to send representatives to watch him in action for Bosnia in the UEFA Nations League.
Vasilj could be an excellent replacement for Johnstone, with the Bosnian at a good age, in terms of being both experienced and also having many years of him to grow and develop further.
Five caps for his country is a testament to his pedigree and it is vital that Steve Bruce brings in someone who can hold his own in what is hopefully a promotion push in 2022/23.
The fact that Vasilj is more likely to be No.1 at the Hawthorns than Wolves and Celtic could work in their favour in luring the player to the second tier.
In other news, West Brom are reportedly keen on signing a fellow Championship player. Find out who it is here.
