Wesley Fofana: Chelsea signing's cheeky comment in Leicester farewell post

Wesley Fofana’s move to Chelsea from Leicester City was finally made official on Wednesday.

Per the ever-reliable David Ornstein, the final fee for the talented centre-back stands at £69.5 million with no add-ons.

That figure is slightly less than previously reported, but it still makes Fofana – who’s signed a seven-year deal at Chelsea – one of the most expensive defenders in history.

Will he be worth the enormous outlay? Only time will tell, although it’s hard to envisage a world in which he flops at Chelsea after watching him dominate strikers for fun at the King Power over the past two years or so.

Fofana was quite simply electric at Leicester after touching down on English shores from Saint Etienne and he’ll always hold fond memories of his time at the club.

However, the 21-year-old still couldn’t resist making a cheeky comment about Brendan Rodgers in a farewell post.

Fofana was publicly called out by Rodgers on a number occasions in recent weeks, with the Leicester boss omitting him from the matchday squad against both Southampton and Chelsea.

The player’s “commitment” and “behaviour” were questioned by his now former mentor, so he’s chosen to respond to those claims in a statement posted to social media.

Fofana wrote: “It’s time to say goodbye.

“During these two seasons here, I have probably experienced the most intense moments of my young football career. I have grown as a player but also as a man.

“Thank you to you, Foxes fans, for your kindness and your constant support, even in the moments you were led to believe I didn’t respect the club. I will never forget how we vibrated, exulted or cried, together… I will never forget you.
