Welsh male voice choir sings to Prince Charles as he visits Treorchy - updates

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Treorchy as they continue their week-long summer visit to Wales. The royal couple are visiting a variety of businesses, organisations and people around the country in the coming days.

After inspecting soldiers in Cardiff on Tuesday morning, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall headed to Treorchy, which was named the which was named the best high street in the UK in 2020. They have spent around an hour talking to local business owners and meeting the hundreds of people that have lined the street in Treorchy, while they were also serenaded by a local male voice choir.

This visit is described as being part of the royal couple's "efforts to champion local high streets and support independent businesses, as 80% of the Treorchy High Street shops are independent and locally owned. The town has a year-round programme of activities including an arts festival, an outdoor cinema event and a Christmas parade. It also runs a refill scheme, a walking group and provides websites for the business and discounts for bus users.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of soldiers from the Queen's Dragoon Guards paraded through Cardiff ahead of an inspection by Prince Charles. The 200 soldiers, who have just returned from a year in Mali, paraded through the city centre with drums beating and colours flying. The regiment, which recruits heavily in Wales, was granted the freedom of the city in 1985. The soldiers were led by a Welsh mountain pony, Lance Corporal Emrys Forlan Jones, their regimental mascot. Music will be provided by the British Army Band Tidworth.
