We signed Moises Caicedo for Manchester United and midfield question was answered

Manchester United look to be prioritising a midfielder in the summer transfer window, with Moises Caicedo the latest player linked with a move to Old Trafford.

After claiming a third-place finish in the Premier League and winning the Carabao Cup, Erik ten Hag is looking to build on his successful first season as United manager with some reinforcements to his squad this summer. Three bids have been made unsuccessfully for Chelsea's Mason Mount so far, and it looks like United could now turn their attention to Brighton and Hove Albion's Caicedo.

After opting against a move for the midfielder in January 2021 that resulted in Brighton signing Caicedo instead, the 21-year-old is now valued by the Seagulls at around £80million, much higher than the £6million fee they originally paid for him two years ago. But United will face competition from Chelsea and Arsenal for his signature, with the latter coming very close to signing the Ecuadorian in January,

So, if United were to sign Caicedo, could he prove to be the midfielder Ten Hag needs? Let's take a look.

To set up this simulation, we used the Football Manager 2023 editor to arrange for the 21-year-old to join United on July 1, 2023, using FM23 to run the simulation. We then simulated the entire 2023/24 season to see how the Ecuador international could perform.

With the heavy price tag on his shoulders, Caicedo was under pressure to perform at United. It didn't take long for the midfielder to become a regular in Ten Hag's side following his arrival though, making 52 appearances for United across all competitions.
