“We’re all hoping it’s going to be Wayne Rooney” – Derby County fan pundit offers verdict on manager situation at the club

There’s a lot happening at Derby County right now more so off the pitch than on. 

Thanks to their -21 points deduction at the start of the season, Derby look very likely to go down this season with them nine points from safety.

Although Wayne Rooney pledged his loyalties to the Rams this season, turning down the Everton job to stay and fight against relegation with the club, when they are in League One he may choose it is the right time to walk.

At the same time, you have Derby’s takeover just coming through and if it does all go through okay you then have to see what the new owners think of Rooney and vice versa, also working out if they’re on the same page.

There’s a lot of questions over the future at Derby at the moment but we asked FLW’s Derby fan pundit Jason who he would like to see appointed as manager if Rooney does leave this summer.

He said: “I think the management situation at Derby if Wayne Rooney leaves is going to be really up in the air.

“Obviously we’re still not 100% sure on who’s taking over Derby at the moment and the choice for manager is going to be one that’s really, really difficult to pull out there.

“I can’t think of any names off the top of my head but I think somebody with some experience in League One might help because it’s going to be a different challenge. Just because Derby are Derby County doesn’t mean that they’re going to go down and cakewalk League One so somebody’s who’s got a bit of nous in that division maybe, a bit of experience would help.
