We’ll beat Nigeria again, Guinea Bissau boasts

• Super Eagles will regain top spot, says Iwobi After a surprise victory over the Super Eagles on Friday, Guinea Bissau are confident of another shocker in the second-leg encounter, which holds today.

The team from the tiny West African country surprised pundits with a gusty display in Abuja, leading to a 1-0 defeat of three times African champions, Super Eagles, right inside the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Despite Nigeria’s efforts to even the scores, Guinea-Bissau held on for a famous victory, setting the stage for a highly anticipated second-leg clash today in Bissau. The match will air on StarTimes World Football channel at 5.00 p.m.

The Super Eagles arrived in Bissau, yesterday, full of anger, promising to put the Djurtus where they belong. But Guinea Bissau say Nigeria is in for another defeat.

Djurtus’ (Wild Dogs) Captain, Braima Nogueira Jorge, before his team left for home on Saturday said that Guinea Bissau had shown that football is not decided by a team’s pedigree.

“Nigeria is blessed with talented players, who are well known all over the world playing for top clubs.

“We scored a goal and defended well to frustrate Nigeria. It is a good win and we want to return home to complete the job,” Jorge said.

Reacting to Jorge’s boasts, Super Eagles’ Alex Iwobi said Nigeria will regain its position on top of Group A today.

“First and foremost, as players and staff, we know we’ve got to react to this result,” Iwobi said.

“All we can do is to improve, and to all the fans, all I can say is that they should stick by us and support us because we give 100 per cent,
