'We can expect' - Transfer insider reveals 'left-field' signing Arsenal 'will look' to secure

Journalist Dean Jones has backed Arsenal to move for Aaron Hickey this summer while speaking on The Done Deal Show.

Arsenal could be one of the busiest clubs in this summer’s transfer window, with a striker clearly a major target as no senior strikers are officially on their books heading into next season, although Eddie Nketiah appears likely to sign a new deal.

The Gunners have found themselves being linked with players such as Gabriel Jesus and Ruben Neves, which would show Mikel Arteta is once again looking to bring in younger players and build for the future.

Jones was asked by host Terry Flewers who would he keep an eye on apart from the usual players being linked to Arsenal, with Jones mentioning Hickey straight away, as he said: “If you’re going to look at just a bit of a left-field one, there’s Aaron Hickey – somebody that they’ve been looking at to bring depth to that backline. I think that’s one we can expect to crop back up again soon; I think they will look to sign Hickey.”

TIF Thoughts on Arsenal going for Hickey…

At just 19 years of age, Hickey would provide Arsenal with a full-back that could be the future for the club going forward, as well as adding some competition for fellow countryman Kieren Tierney, who is very susceptible to picking up numerous injuries during the season.

While Jones has claimed that Arsenal will look to sign Hickey, it certainly doesn’t seem to be very straightforward, with other Premier League sides such as Newcastle United credited with an interest in the young full-back, and the Magpies could likely offer very similar wages given their new owners.
