We Become Heroes: Kevin O'Brien vows to 'prove people wrong' and regain his place in Ireland squad

Kevin O'Brien has vowed to regain his place in the Ireland squad after being dropped last November.

In the latest episode of We Become Heroes, the Ireland cricketer has been opening up about his desire to continue his career with Ireland, the expectation that comes with holding records and how the cricket landscape has changed.

"Frustrating," the 38-year-old said of his current fight to try and work his way back into Ireland's T20 squad contention after being dropped for the series against the United States and West Indies last November.

"But I suppose that's professional sport and what I've learned in the last couple of months is there's not much loyalty involved in professional sport.

"Players, when we get to a certain age in our career, the twilight period, the age may be considered in your selection and your future selections.

"But that's sport and that's just the way I've got to deal with it now. My goal is to get back in the team and hopefully I can perform well at interprovincial level and force my way back in."

O'Brien, who played a leading and record-breaking role at the 2011 ICC World Cup against England, admitted he was surprised by being dropped.

"Certainly taking the phone call in October or November, I was very surprised and pretty shocked," he said.

"Obviously I didn't have a fantastic season but I don't think a lot of us did in the team. But that's just something I've got to deal with.
