Wayne Rooney receives FA warning for Manchester United incident involving John Terry

Wayne Rooney has been handed a warning by the FA for an incident in Manchester United's match against Chelsea in 2006.

Ahead of the release of the 'Rooney' documentary on Amazon, the United legend revealed he changed his studs to 'long mental ones' for the Reds' match at Chelsea in April 2006 with the intention to 'hurt someone' at Stamford Bridge.

Rooney admitted he 'went looking' for John Terry and the former centre-back has recently joked about the incident.

However, despite there being no bad blood between Rooney and Terry, and the incident occurring 16 years ago, the FA have spoken to Rooney and handed him a warning about his future conduct, as he currently manages Championship Derby County.

Rooney opened up on his discussions with England's governing body in football ahead of Derby's match this weekend.

"I, obviously, gave my response to the FA, they've given me a warning and that's it," Rooney said.

"The matter's been put to bed so we can move on from that.

"It is what it is. The FA...it was obviously reported, and they've had to look into it.

"I got a warning. That's it, it's done, we move on. The matter's closed and I'm pleased with that."
