Wayne Rooney Reacts To Moment When He Contested A Drop-Ball Against Hull With Skinhead
Well, 13 years later and SPORTbible spoke to England's all-time leading goalscorer on the red carpet ahead of the release of his upcoming Amazon documentary - and we just had to ask what was going through his head on that day at Old Trafford.
"Is that from the Hull game?", Rooney laughs. "I just think I was at a point where I was thinking, my hair was going and I just shaved it off. It was doing my head in. And that coincides with the tackle
"It pops up quite a bit," he added. "My eight-year-old son said the other say that he loves skinhead Rooney... I think it was more bald Rooney than skinhead Rooney to be honest!"
The former United striker was lucky to get away with just a yellow card from referee Mike Dean after the two quick-fire challenges against Phil Brown's battling Hull side.
George Boateng limped off after the violent swing of the right boot but after the full-time whistle, he defended Rooney by saying it wasn't just him who was frustrated by United's disappointing performance.
"It wasn't just Rooney, it was the whole team." he said.
"Look at the penalty Rio Ferdinand gave away. Normally, he'd stand up in that situation but because of the way we were playing he was doing a lot of running and getting disappointed."
He has achieved more in his glittering career than most but despite many notable highs, his career has been met with some memorable lows; something that will be detailed in this special documentary.
