Wayne Rooney delivers brutally honest verdict on Manchester United's Paul Pogba

Wayne Rooney thinks Manchester United 'need to let' Paul Pogba leave the club this summer.

Pogba returned to United for an £89m world-record transfer fee in 2016 but he's won just two trophies during his second stint at the club. Pogba has become a polarising figure among United supporters, with some feeling he's never delivered on his potential.

The midfielder has allowed his contract at Old Trafford to run down and that means he's set to leave United on a free transfer at the end of the season, exactly 10 years after he last left the club for free. Rooney, making his second appearance on Monday Night Football, was asked about Pogba's second spell in Manchester and he admitted he doesn't think the move has worked.

Rooney revealed he would be against a late contract extension for Pogba ahead of his scheduled summer exit. "It's got to point now where it's probably better for him to move on," Rooney told Sky Sports.

"I think if Paul is honest with himself, he hasn't had the impact he would have liked since he returned to Manchester United. I watch him play for France and he's a completely different player.

"Ability, his vision, control of the game is there every game for France. It just hasn't quite worked for him at Manchester United. There's a few players they need to let go."
