WATCH | You can't do that! Quins prop Marler leaves Stormers' Fourie furious over uncompromising grab

Harlequins prop Joe Marler proved quite a handful for the Stormers in last Saturday's Champions Cup round of 16 clash in Cape Town.

The match was generally played in good spirits, apart from the odd scuffle breaking out.

Most notably, Marler drew the ire of Stormers flank Deon Fourie at a ruck when it appeared as though Marler grabbed Fourie in an uncompromising position.

Former Springbok assistant coach Swys de Bruin highlighted Marler's actions in a video clip on SuperSport's Final Whistle programme on Sunday.

"It's not so kosher what he's doing there and Deon Fourie doesn't enjoy it," De Bruin said. "Deon said 'no mate, it's just not on, you can't do that, it's just not rugby'".

Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett, who was also a guest on the show hosted by Owen Nkumane, quipped: "Is he wearing a box, Deon Fourie?"

Marler was not cited after Saturday's match at Cape Town Stadium, which the Stormers won 32-28 to book their spot in the quarter-finals away to Exeter Chiefs.

It wouldn't be the first time Marler had done something similar. In 2020, the England front ranker copped a 10-week ban for grabbing Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones' testicles during a Six Nations game.

Marler also made headlines late last year over comments he made to Bristol Bears flanker Jack Heenan during a match at The Stoop.

His offensive remark about Heenan's mother, who was ill, saw the Rugby Football Union issue the prop a two-match ban.

In 2016, Marler was handed a two-week ban and fined £20 000 for calling Wales tighthead prop Samson Lee "gypsy boy".
