Watch: Sadio Mane interrupts Luis Diaz interview to hug team-mate

Sadio Mane could not wait to show Luis Diaz some love after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Benfica in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

After starring for Porto in the Primeira Liga and the Champions League, Diaz joined Liverpool in January in a deal worth an initial £37.5million.

The Colombia international has hit the ground running at Anfield, scoring two goals in his first six Premier League appearances.

During his time at Porto, Diaz won five and drew two of his seven games against Benfica and was named in Klopp’s XI for Liverpool’s trip to the Estadio da Luz.

Liverpool took the lead in the 17th minute when Ibrahima Konate headed the ball home from Andy Robertson’s inch-perfect corner.

After being picked out by a sensational Trent Alexander-Arnold pass, Diaz headed across the face of goal and Sadio Mane had the simple task of side-footing into the net.

Darwin Nunez pulled a goal back for Benfica at the start of the second half but Diaz marked his return to Portugal with a goal in the closing stages.

The 25-year-old received the Man of the Match award and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for him.

“He’s a top player,” Klopp said after the game. “He’s a top, top world level player. It’s a joy for me to work with Luís every day, and I’m more than happy that we decided to sign him in January.”

As Diaz completed his post-match interview with the media, Mane burst into shot to give his team-mate a hug of appreciation. Liverpool fans will now be hoping that the duo can link up again during their next game against Manchester City.
