Lionel Messi hasn’t enjoyed the best season for PSG but he combined with Kylian Mbappe to score an incredibly sexy goal during their Ligue 1 match against Montpellier on Saturday night.

Messi joined the French club from Barcelona last summer but has failed to produce his best form despite PSG romping to the French title.

And the Argentina captain was booed alongside Neymar a few months back following PSG’s elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid.

But Messi, despite his advancing years, remains a player of immense quality and demonstrated just this during PSG’s trip south to face Montpellier.

The French champions were already leading 1-0 when Mbappe collected the ball on the left touchline and flicked an imperious pass into the path of his team-mate.

Taking the ball in his stride, Messi sat the goalkeeper down before rolling it into an unguarded net to double the Parisen’s advantage.

It was a tantalising glimpse of the chemistry between two of world football’s elite talents but PSG fans may not be able to witness a repeat next season with Mbappe’s future still undecided.

The France international now has just six weeks remaining on his contract, making it likely that he will depart Parc des Princes on a free transfer.

Although PSG will remain in contact with the World Cup winner in a last-gasp bid to agree fresh terms, Real Madrid regard themselves as favourites at the present moment.

According to Le Parisien, Real officials have been telling people that the 23-year-old will soon complete the move to La Liga.

A different report has previously said that Mbappe will not make any announcement on his future until the end of the Ligue 1 campaign, which concludes on May 21.
