Watch: Liverpool captain Henderson acts as Fabinho’s bodyguard

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson prevented Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster from disrupting Fabinho’s penalty taking routine during the Reds’ 2-0 win.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were the beneficiaries of a VAR decision late in the second half. Referee Stuart Attwell checked the pitchside monitor and awarded a penalty after Diogo Jota was wrestled to the ground in the area by Juraj Kucka.

With Liverpool only one goal ahead heading into injury time, the Brazil international was the designated taker with Mohamed Salah and James Milner both off the pitch.

As Fabinho placed the ball on the spot, Foster looked like he was trying to put off the midfielder by coming off his line. But Henderson soon intervened and placed himself between the two men.

The 31-year-old has done similar this season by protecting Salah from potential mind games with goalkeepers before penalty-kicks.

His act of leadership worked once again as Fabinho secured a vital three points dispatching his spot-kick emphatically into the top corner.

This was Fabinho’s fifth Premier League goal for the Reds this term – his best return since joining the club from Monaco in May 2018.

“I don’t think after the international break I ever see the best game of the season. We were very mature and very controlled,” Klopp said post-match.

“Credit to Watford and to Roy [Hodgson]. He can really organise the team. Everybody knew what space he had to close to make it difficult.

“We could have done better but after two weeks not together and the early kick-off it’s really tricky. But all teams have the same problems.

“The Premier League is the most important competition. A big two months (ahead) hopefully. This week can decide a lot about how May will be.
