Watch: Kylian Mbappe denied astonishingly good goal for offside
An offside flag denied Kylian Mbappe what would have been his second brilliant goal of the night in PSG’s last 16 Champions League tie at the Bernabeu.
Mbappe put the visitors well and truly in the ascendancy when his composed first half finish gave Mauricio Pochettino’s side a two-goal cushion in the two-legged tie.
The France international looked to have all-but secured the Parisiens’ progression into the quarter-final stage when his breathtaking dummy one-on-one with Thibaut Courtois left the goalkeeper perplexed on the deck, and he slotted home into an empty net.
But three quick-fire Karim Benzema goals put Madrid in the driving seat to go through after an amazing comeback in the Spanish capital.
“If we press high then that means we need to be alert in defence, especially against their forwards,” Carlo Ancelotti said pre-match.
“We suffered their high press in the last game and we couldn’t find good attacking opportunities when bringing the ball out.
“Our low block worked well in the first leg, as we only conceded the goal in the last minute, but we definitely have to be better with the ball.”
PSG were unable to bounce back from their almighty collapse and suffered a shock exit from the Champions League.
Penny for Mbappe’s thoughts tonight.
