WATCH | Fleet-footed former Bok skipper Jean de Villiers apprehends would-be thief
Footage has emerged of former Springbok skipper Jean de Villiers chasing down a would-be thief in Paarl last month.
Earlier this week, News24 Sport reported on the incident in The Boer & Butcher on 23 January, where De Villiers spotted a man allegedly slipping chocolates into his bag before walking out.
The shop's owner Edu Hanekom told Netwerk24 that De Villiers and his wife Marlie, who are regular customers, were at the checkout when the former midfielder first spotted the man acting suspiciously.
Hanekom said De Villiers followed the alleged thief outside the store. The man tried to run away but was caught by the former Stormers star and brought back to the shop.
"We are very grateful for Jean's actions. It was quite a thing when a former Springbok rugby captain arrived with the thief," Hanekom said.
New video footage of the incident was recently posted on the shop's Facebook page.
