Watch: Fabrizio Romano explains Barcelona’s signing of Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski has finally sealed his dream move to Barcelona after months of speculation – and Fabrizio Romano has explained how the deal came to fruition. 

Bayern Munich have reportedly accepted a €50million offer from Barcelona for Lewandowski, who hit 50 goals in all competitions for the German champions last season.

Rather than appear at Bayern’s team presentation event at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, Lewandowski is expected to travel to Spain to put the finishing touches to his transfer.

It will mark the end of a saga that began in May, when it emerged there was a mutual interest between Lewandowski and Barcelona.

Reports indicate Barcelona will pay an initial €45million, plus €5million in performance-related add-ons, days after shelling out €47million for Leeds forward Raphinha.

Barcelona have also secured deals for Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen this summer, who were out of contract at Milan and Chelsea respectively.

Xavi Hernandez has signed the leading scorer from Europe’s top five leagues as he looks to seal Barcelona’s first La Liga title since 2019 and Romano has explained how the deal from Lewandowski became reality.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the renowned journalist said: “Here we go! The deal is done, Robert Lewandowski is a new Barcelona player. It will be a three-year deal that includes a clause to extend the contract for a further season.

“Bayern accepted a proposal on Friday worth around €45million for Lewandowski. Chelsea and PSG were interested but the player only wanted to join Barca.”

Romano went on to add: “Xavi is very important in this story. He had many direct contacts with Lewandowski, telling him about his ideas and ambitions for this Barcelona team.
