WATCH | Exclusive MAP1MP1 documentary: 'My father wasn't interested in knowing me'

MAP1MP1, a documentary chronicling the life of Springbok winger Makazole Mapimpi, is sure to generate significant interest among rugby fans.

The documentary, which will hit screens at the end of the month, tracks Mapimpi's upbringing from rural Tsholomnqa to his heroics in the Springbok jersey.

It's well known that Mapimpi had a tough upbringing, and his rise to the top has been described as coming from the most hopeless of situations.

Sport24 has obtained a sneak-peak of the documentary, in which Mapimpi says his father didn't have much interest in him. The 31-year-old  also lost his mother, older brother and sister before he came into prominence as a rugby player.

"I didn't know the guy. I only met him [a few] years back, the time I was playing for Southern Kings," Mapimpi recalls.

"I heard from people that he worked at a particular place and I thought, let me give him a chance to meet. We met in 2017.

"But I saw that he was not interested in [knowing] me. He was not even excited to see me."

Mapimpi made history at the World Cup in 2019 by becoming the first South African to ever score a try for the Springboks in a final.

He has scored against every team he has played against internationally, boasting 17 tries in 23 Tests.
