WATCH | Drama avoided as Kings Park fire contained 'almost immediately' with no injuries

The Sharks and Kings Park patrons breathed a sigh of relief following the expedient containment of a fire that broke out shortly after the team won their opening encounter of the new Challenge Cup season by 45-5 over Pau on Saturday evening.

The small blaze, which was located on the southern stand of the 54 000-capacity venue, appeared electrical in nature though no official confirmation what ignited it.

One video on social media showed the quick thinking of a stadium employee, who almost immediately commenced the extinguishing effort.

Sharks management initially confirmed to News24 that the fire was doused within minutes and later released a short statement via its media Whatsapp group reiterating that there was to be no drama in that regard.

The franchise furthermore said that "thankfully" no injuries were sustained in what is predominantly and empty part of the stadium on various match days.

The Sharks travel to Bloemfontein next week to take on the Cheetahs in their second pool match of the tournament.
