WATCH | Cape Town turns out in their droves to celebrate champion Stormers on city parade

Young and old descended on the Grand Parade on Friday to celebrate with United Rugby Championship (URC) winners, the Stormers.

It was a boisterous and wholesome mood in front of the Cape Town City Hall as Stormers flags were held aloft.

Joining the festivities was the full compliment of Stormers players and management, the Premier of the Western Cape, Alan Winde, and City of Cape Town mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis.

The formal speeches were kept to a minimum with players and top brass wearing bold smiles and singing and signing autographs for their "Faithful".

Head coach John Dobson repeated a line he's become accustomed to, saying they were indebted to their supporters and were happy to revel in the win with them.

"All of you on Saturday who were at the stadium were saying 'thank you' to us, now it's our turn," Dobson said to happy cheers.

"We belong to the people of Cape Town and we will reflect that in the years to come," he added.

Winde stepped up to give a gleeful caveat: "Now that you've won it. Keep it," he urged the team.

As captain Steven Kitshoff hoisted the URC trophy, the confetti went up and a palpable sense of joy filled the air.

The players then mingled with supporters, taking selfies and signing autographs.
