'Wasted potential' - Marcus Rashford transfer verdict and the realistic fee Man United can expect

Marcus Rashford's time at Manchester United is coming to an end, according to Manchester Evening News readers - though the Reds may struggle to realise a strong financial return if they decide to sell the forward in January.

Rashford's future at United looks uncertain after the England forward and Alejandro Garnacho were dropped entirely from Ruben Amorim's matchday squad for United's 2-1 derby win against Man City at the Etihad on Sunday.

Despite a memorable Manchester derby result, Rashford's future has dominated the headlines since. Amorim challenged both players to prove themselves and improve their standards both on and off the pitch - but Rashford dropped a bombshell on Tuesday by confirming that he is "ready for a new challenge".

On Wednesday Amorim put the ball back in Rashford's court (in public, at least) by claiming the "new challenge" he desires could be in restoring United to the top of the game. However, the Portuguese is likely to be unimpressed by having to engage with a transfer saga - a specialty at United in recent years - so soon after beating rivals City in their own backyard.

Rashford was not seen among United's travelling squad for Thursday night's Carabao Cup trip to Tottenham while Garnacho was reinstated, though Rashford had reported unwell for training on Monday - and the players had been given Tuesday off by Amorim.
