Warren Gatland press conference Live as Wales coach faces media at Principality Stadium for first time after return

Returning Wales coach Warren Gatland will face the media at the Principality Stadium today.

Gatland, who was announced as Wales coach last week following the departure of Wayne Pivac, is back in Wales and will speak to the press at midday alongside Welsh Rugby Union chief executive Steve Phillips and chair Ieuan Evans.

When Gatland was unveiled as Wales boss last week he spoke to the media via Zoom from New Zealand. This will be his first briefing in Cardiff upon his return to Wales.

For Gatland, the agenda will be firmly on rugby after last week's homecoming party, with his backroom staff still to be decided and time running out for sweeping changes ahead of the Six Nations.

As for Phillips and Evans, the wider issues of the Welsh game will likely be thrown their way. The game remains in a state of flux, with the professional sides preparing themselves for a potential exodus of talent due to the financial paralysis placed on them so far this season.

Just this week, former Sports Wales boss Huw Jones warned that Welsh professional rugby was "teetering on the brink of financial collapse".
