It said affected areas should expect:

The M48 Severn Bridge heading in and out of Wales has been closed as a result of high winds. The route is currently closed in both directions between J1 (Aust) and J2 (Chepstow).

A diversion has been put in place via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge. National Highways is warning motorists to expect delays.

In a post at 10.47pm, the official Twitter account for The Severn Bridges wrote: "#M48 #SevernBridge J1 #Aust to J2 #Chepstow is now closed due to high winds. Diversion is via the #M4 #PrinceOfWalesBridge."

Elsewhere in Wales, the A499 between Y Ffor and Llanaelhaearn on the Llyn Peninsula is currently flooded and unsuitable for vehicles. Motorists are being asked to find an alternative route.
