Wales manager endorses Manchester United transfer for Frenkie de Jong

Wales caretaker manager Robert Page admitted he hopes to see Frenkie de Jong playing in the Premier League next season as Manchester United continue talks over a deal to sign him.

United have opened talks with Barcelona to try and sign the Dutchman this summer, but at the moment the two clubs are some way apart in their valuation of the Dutch midfielder.

The Manchester Evening News revealed on Monday that United are continuing to keep communication open with other midfield targets in case a deal does not transpire.

United supporters will be watching intently when De Jong lines up for the Netherlands against Wales on Tuesday night in the Nations League amid intense social media anticipation of a deal.

And speaking ahead of the clash Wales caretaker Page admits he'd love to see De Jong playing in England next season if a deal can be done.

“A great player. We experienced that firsthand," Page told reporters. "I don’t know where he’s going to play, but whatever he’s doing; he will shine there. De Jong is a great player, let’s hope for the fans that he can be seen in the Premier League every week next season.”
