Wales international set to leave Scarlets for regional rivals as part of double swoop

Wales international Tyler Morgan is being linked with a return to the Dragons after two seasons with the Scarlets.

And Angus O’Brien is also set to line up again for the east Walians after time in Llanelli.

The Rugby Paper say the Dragons are close to re-signing Morgan and have completed a deal to bring O’Brien back to Rodney Parade.

Morgan has five Wales caps in the bank, including two won at the 2015 World Cup. He has pace, can make an outside break and many who saw him play in his younger days would have expected that tally to have been significantly more by now.

But injuries haven’t helped him. He joined the Scarlets in 2020 and featured 18 times in his first year with the west Walians, his appearances including a European Challenge Cup quarter-final role off the bench against Toulon.

Game-time for the 26-year-old has been scarce this season amid hot competition for midfield places at the Llanelli-based region, with Scott Williams, Johnny Williams, Jonathan Davies, Steff Hughes and Joe Roberts also on the Scarlets’ books.

Able to play at fly-half and wing, O’Brien has played 41 times for the Scarlets over four seasons but had just one competitive outing this term.

He is another one with talent and he should bolster the Dragons’ strength in depth.

Their director of rugby Dean Ryan has also completed the signings of centre Max Clark from Bath, fly-half JJ Hanrahan from Clermont Auvergne, lock Sean Lonsdale from Exeter, prop Rhodri Jones from the Ospreys and hooker Bradley Roberts from Ulster.
