Vote for your favourite artist to create permanent homage to Manchester in city's landmark
Printworks has long been a Mancunian staple for entertainment, nightlife and merriment in the city centre. Home to a myriad of bars, restaurants and leisure activities such as Treetop Adventure Golf, Ten Pin and Escape Reality, it is located just off Exchange Square, is well-known to Mancunians everywhere, and is thrilled to be undergoing works to update the space and give it a new lease of life.
To celebrate Printworks' refurbishment project, it is launching a new, larger-than-life artwork in its main pump yard, called Printworks Big Art. The event producers who brought Bee in the City to Manchester in 2018, Wild in Art, are leading the project and have shortlisted some brilliant artists who could be in with a chance of developing this amazing new visual public artwork.
One of five professional artists will be commissioned to design, develop and deliver a permanent public artwork for the site. The commissioners are looking for a stunning, visually engaging artwork that will light up the public space. The artwork should reflect Printworks' core values; showcasing Manchester's soul and pride for the spirit of our city, vitality and energy, being connected to one another, a focus on ethics, honest, trust and escape.
The final pick will be chosen by public vote as well as an artist selection panel which includes Ben Reed, the creative director of Wild in Art, Jason Shay, Printworks Centre director, Gwen Youlden, head of destination marketing and commercialisation at Cushman & Wakefield, David Fraser from Harrison Fraser brand specialists, and the infamous Norman Cook, also known as Fatboy Slim, legendary DJ, musician and record producer.
