Vinicius Jr. rejected Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd before agreeing new Real Madrid deal

Vinicius Junior is set to sign a new four-year deal with Real Madrid that will put him on level terms with the club’s top earners.

The forward is being heavily rewarded having just completed the best season of his career by far, scoring 22 goals and making 20 assists to fire Real to the La Liga title and their record-extending 14th Champions League triumph.

Indeed, it was Vinicius who scored the only goal of the European final as Real beat Liverpool in Paris back in May.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the contract extension is ‘done and sealed’ and will be officially announced in July, with the club also setting the Brazilian’s release clause at around €1billion (£870m) to ward off any interested parties.

And Los Blancos are right to be concerned about a rival club potentially poaching one of their brightest and best players as, according to Marca, Vinicius was courted by Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United at various points last season.

At the time Vinicius’ contract only ran until 2024, giving hope to Europe’s top sides that they could convince the 21-year-old to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

PSG were the most interested and were reportedly in constant contact with the player from November 2021 onwards as they urged him not to sign a new deal with Real.

Instead, the Ligue 1 champions promised Vinicius a contract worth £34.3m-a-year if he moved to the Parc des Princes, a deal approximately four times more lucrative than the one he has just agreed to, but the player turned them down with his heart set on staying in Spain.

The three aforementioned Premier League sides also made enquiries into the forward in the last few months but were all rejected.
